The Details

  • What: Future Ford of Sacramento Blood Drive
  • When: Thursday, September 22, from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Where: The Bloodmobile parked in our lot at 4625 Madison Ave

Why It Matters

Sacramento and the surrounding area are in critical need of blood. Vitalant is rationing blood to hospitals to ensure there’s enough available to support patients in need. In many cases, hospitals only have enough blood for a one-day supply, putting critical patients at risk. But what’s the reason for the shortage?

Vitalant reports that blood supplies have fallen nearly 50% over the last few years, with fewer people donating due to the pandemic and hybrid work models that aren’t conducive to supporting mobile blood drives. In addition, donations fell again over the summer as vacations took people out of town and families shifted their focus from their regular routines. Regardless, the demand for blood at local hospitals continues to rise as more patients undergo surgeries that require transfusions.

How You Can Make a Difference

Our June blood drive was an incredible success, with every appointment filled for the day. We’re hoping for the same, if not better, results for our September event and encourage eligible donors to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. People of all blood types are asked to donate, and those with Type O blood are encouraged to make donating a priority since Type O is universally compatible.

We invite the Future Ford of Sacramento team and their friends, family, and other community members to participate. We’re committed to making small impacts wherever we can. That impact begins at our front door via the Vitalant Bloodmobile on September 22, 2022.

Helpful Tips

The Future Ford of Sacramento Blood Drive is open to the community from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM on September 22, 2022. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ups are welcome. What else can you expect from the event, and how can you prepare?

Who Is Eligible to Donate?

Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors under the age of 16 must have a signed parental consent form to donate. Vitalant will provide a health history questionnaire and brief medical screening to verify donor eligibility. Eligible donors will then proceed with the donation, which takes around 10 minutes.

How Can You Prepare?

You’ll need to bring a photo ID to your appointment and know the names of any medications you’re currently taking. Aside from this, Vitalant encourages donors to prepare by drinking plenty of water the day before and consuming at least 16 ounces of water two hours before donating. The team also recommends eating a healthy meal at least two hours before your donation.

How’s My Blood Used?

Your donation will impact the emergency blood shortage in Sacramento and the surrounding areas. Vitalant supplies blood to 50 hospitals throughout Northern California, benefiting cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, newborns, and sickle cell patients. Your donation may also help patients needing open-heart surgeries or other life-saving procedures.
