What Makes the Ford E-Transit Perfect for So Many Companies?

There’s an old saying that a craftsman is only as good as his tools—we think this extends to any business and that each company is only as good as the tools it has available to utilize. For a lot of companies, a great work van is one of the most important tools in their proverbial belt, providing reliable transportation for workers, cargo, and other equipment. Whether you are interested in commercial vehicles for sale because you need a van to use while making deliveries or you need to be able to get your tools and materials to a job site, Ford has you covered. You have a number of impressive options available in the Ford lineup to help your business, but one that we are most excited about is the E-Transit Cargo Van, an all-electric commercial van designed to meet the needs of a wide range of businesses. Let’s take a closer look at this van to see what it can do and figure out if it’s the right vehicle to deliver what your company requires.

Exceptional All-Electric Performance

We don’t have to tell you how important the performance and reliability of your work van are; you know that you need a vehicle you can count on every day that will get you where you need to go. For most folks, the Ford E-Transit van is the perfect solution in both of these areas, providing you with a powerful vehicle that is built for rugged capability and impressive performance. You’re not going to feel like you’re driving a sports car or anything, but the E-Transit is a joy to drive, and it will keep you on the road for a long time.

This is an all-electric van, which means it has no engine and never needs to stop for gas while you’re getting your work done. Instead, there’s a single electric motor on the rear wheels, providing you with rear-wheel drive, which is powered by an 89 kWh lithium-ion battery designed to get you where you need to go. In terms of performance, this electric motor delivers 266 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, giving you plenty of power to make driving this van much more enjoyable than you might expect at first.

We know that range is a concern for many people when exploring the idea of an electric vehicle; this is no different for our commercial customers who are worried they might not be able to go where they need to each day. This depends on how much you tend to drive in a day, but the average daily range of a commercial van in the US is 74 miles. With that in mind, the Ford E-Transit van can go up to an estimated 159 miles on a full charge; this is for the Low-Roof model that gets the best range, but even a High-Roof version can still go an estimated 143 miles on a full charge. Real life can be a bit different than these estimates, but you can rely on a much better range than the average commercial van from a single charge.

Of course, the beauty of this kind of setup is that you can recharge your van overnight at your business or even in your driveway at home. You can charge the E-Transit van just about anywhere thanks to a Mobile Power Cord that supports both 120V and 240V charging, or have a Ford Charge Station Pro installed to make charging at home simple. If you have a fleet and need a depot charging solution, then Ford can help you set up the proper installation of on-site charging stations that make it easy to charge multiple vehicles overnight in one location. And, of course, you can take advantage of the BlueOval Charge Network, which has more than 35,000 public charging locations and more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger locations that are now compatible with Ford electric vehicles to keep your E-Transit van charged.

Two Lengths and Three Heights to Meet Your Needs

While the E-Transit Cutaway and Chassis Cab models might give you the most freedom for robust customization, the Cargo Van is still a great choice that you can easily get to meet your needs. In particular, Ford offers four different sizes for this van, letting you choose the type of configuration that best meets your needs. For starters, there are two different lengths available: the standard Long model, which measures just over 235 inches in length, or the Long-EL, which is nearly 264 inches long. Both models have a 148-inch wheelbase and the same width, but this gives you different amounts of room inside.

Speaking of which, you also have three different heights available for the E-Transit Cargo Van: the Low Roof that is about 83 inches in height, a Medium Roof that is just over 101 inches high, or the High Roof that makes the van about 110 inches tall. The one thing we should note, however, is that the Long-EL version of this van is only offered with the High Roof, so keep that in mind when considering what you need for your business. These different configurations give you different amounts of room inside, too, with just over 143 inches of cargo length in the Long model and more than 172 inches of cargo length inside the Long-EL.

Depending on the model you choose, you’ll also find different amounts of cargo volume inside. Maximum cargo volume for each configuration comes in at:

  • E-Transit Long/Low – 311.9 cu.ft.
  • E-Transit Long/Med – 400.5 cu.ft.
  • E-Transit Long/High – 453.4 cu.ft.
  • E-Transit Long-EL/High – 536.4 cu.ft.

No matter which setup you choose, the Ford E-Transit Cargo Van has a gross vehicle weight rating of 9,500 lbs, with over 3,000 lbs of cargo capacity in Long models. This makes it easy to load up with the tools, equipment, and supplies you need to get your job done, and then hit the road to take care of business.

Impressive Tech Features Inside and Out

Flashy tech might not be the most important thing to you when looking for a van for your business, but there are certain types of technology that can help you get your job done. For example, the E-Transit features Ford’s SYNC 4 system with a 12-inch Infotainment display. Useful for much more than music, this system makes it easy to keep track of navigation information to reach a customer’s location, find nearby charging stations if you need one, and stay connected to other members of your team. Note that this is a two-passenger vehicle, too, so if you need to bring someone along to a job site, then the E-Transit has you covered.

One of our favorite options for the E-Transit is Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system that’s available, which offers 2.4 kW of power that can be provided to external devices and equipment. This lets you use your van to charge and power a wide range of tools and supplies, with a 120V outlet and 12V on the E-Transit Cargo Van. More available options include things like Adaptive Cruise Control, a 360-Degree Camera with Split View that makes it easy to maneuver a big van through tight spots and cramped job sites, and even a Virtual Rearview Mirror for added visibility. No matter what your business needs, the E-Transit is ready to deliver.

Is the Ford E-Transit Right for Your Business

You can see how much the E-Transit Cargo Van has to offer and why so many people have started switching to its all-electric performance for their companies. We didn’t even mention how much money this van can potentially save your business—charging is generally much cheaper than fueling up a comparable gas- or diesel-powered van, plus maintenance costs on the E-Transit are incredibly low each year. If you’re not interested in going all-electric, we can understand that, and ultimately, you have to do what’s right for your business. That said, there’s a lot the E-Transit Cargo Van can offer, and we’ve had a number of commercial clients rave about how this van has changed the way they get their work done. No matter what your business needs, at the end of the day, you know that Ford has you covered.
