Sometimes, a question like that would prompt a pretty quick and simple response because a new model year often brings a couple of different exterior colors or maybe a new wheel design. But for the 2025 model year, Ford is shaking things up with the Maverick and making it better than ever with more options and impressive features inside and out. Although we love the compact truck that you’ll find at your favorite Ford dealer right now, the 2025 model is ready to take things further and delivers a number of features we’ve been hoping for. Whether you want improved traction and control with the hybrid engine or you’ve been waiting to see a street-inspired, performance-focused version of the Maverick, this is the year for you. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new for the 2025 Maverick, and you’ll see why so many people are excited for what Ford is ready to deliver.

The All-New Ford Maverick Lobo

Ford first brought the Maverick to the market for the 2022 model year, delivering a small truck that immediately earned a lot of fans and praise from drivers and critics alike. Even though it’s been quite popular, there are plenty of things that folks have been asking for to fully deliver on the potential of this pickup. Answering one of these requests is the all-new Maverick Lobo trim, which is designed with performance at the forefront. If the Maverick caught your eye and you thought it would be a fun truck to take to the track, then the Lobo is precisely what you’ve been waiting for.

The Lobo is powered by the 2.0L EcoBoost engine that’s available for the Maverick rather than the standard hybrid. The Lobo’s engine provides 238 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Most Maverick models with this engine feature an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the Lobo comes with a seven-speed Quick Shift instead, providing a more responsive drive. Designed for the track, Ford lowered the ride height by half an inch for the Lobo in the front and more than an inch in the back, with a roof that’s almost an inch lower. Ford pulled the twin-clutch rear drive unit from the Bronco Sport and put it in the Lobo for enhanced steering and control, along with dual-piston front brake calipers snagged from the Focus STā€”one of Ford’s most popular models in Europe.

Torque vectoring from the aforementioned rear drive unit allows the Maverick Lobo to achieve incredibly tight maneuvering and steering. This activates when you put the truck into Lobo Drive Mode, exclusive to this model and meant for use only on closed courses due to how it reduces the effectiveness of the stability control system. The Lobo has enhanced cooling to help it deal with whatever you put it through, plus rally-inspired wheels and a street-art-inspired interior that gives it a distinct look. Overall, this is the kind of thing we love seeing from Ford: a powerful truck that delivers an exhilarating driving experience. It might be a niche trim, but for those of us looking to put a small truck through its paces on a track or at an Autocross meet-up, it’s the pickup we’ve been waiting for.

Redefined Ford Maverick Tremor

If your tastes are more tuned to the dirt and mud than the pavement, then Ford has you covered with an enhanced version of the Tremor model. In previous years, the Tremor package was available for different Maverick trim levels; for 2025, Ford has simplified things by making the Tremor its own trim so you can focus on it without worrying about anything else. Where the Lobo takes almost an inch off the Maverick’s ground clearance, the Tremor model adds nearly an inch to it so you can climb over challenging terrain with ease. Similarly, where the standard Maverick has an approach angle of about 20 degrees, the Tremor features an approach angle of more than 30 degrees, so it can tackle anything.

The Tremor comes with 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires for excellent traction and grip out on the trail. You’ll find an advanced all-wheel drive (AWD) system on the Tremor with the twin-clutch rear drive unit from the Bronco Sport to give it enhanced traction and performance, plus a rear drive unit lock for when you need it. Skid plates help protect the underside of this model, and it features an off-road-tuned suspension with unique springs and shocks designed to take the bumps and dips of the trail. Inside, features like heated seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and a B&O sound system provide a comfortable, fun ride that is perfect for the trail or getting to work each day.

Hybrid Performance Meets AWD Engineering

As impressive as the Lobo and Tremor models are, there’s another change for the 2025 Maverick that is an even bigger deal for many drivers. One of the most attractive aspects of the Maverick is that it has an impressive 2.5L hybrid engine that delivers 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. So far, this engine has only been available with FWD, which is fine, but we’ve heard more than a few customers wish it could have enhanced performance and traction. Ford has also heard these wishes, and the 2025 model makes AWD available with the hybrid engine for the first time, providing an improved driving experience that still gets impressive fuel efficiency to create a small truck unlike anything else out there.

Refreshed Exterior and Improved Interior Features

We’re not ones to get too obsessed with looks, but we’re happy to recognize a good-looking vehicle when we see it; the Maverick has been just that since it first hit the road, but it’s getting even better with the 2025 model. Ford gives the Maverick a facelift and updates for 2025 with a redesigned grille, Dark appearance LED headlamps, and a new front bumper that all make a strong, immediate impression. Grille designs vary across trim levels, giving models distinct appearances, and higher trims feature LED projector headlamps with signature accent lighting to provide even bolder looks. Inside, the standard eight-inch screen from previous years has been replaced by a new 13.2-inch Infotainment display for all models, along with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With an eight-inch digital instrument cluster screen, these displays make it easy to use different apps, keep track of information you need, and make the most out of your time on the road each day.

Have You Been Waiting for the 2025 Maverick?

As you can see, there are many reasons people are so excited about the 2025 Maverick and the wide range of changes and updates Ford is set to deliver. If you’re looking for a small truck to take off-road, then the revised Tremor trim is ready for you; on the other hand, if you dream of taking a compact pickup through the tight twists and turns of an Autocross track, then the Lobo is everything you’ve been waiting for. With new looks outside and improved features and tech inside, the 2025 Maverick brings everything together beautifully, while an available hybrid engine with AWD is the proverbial icing on this cake. We’ll admit that a compact truck like this isn’t for everyone, which is why Ford still rules the market with the midsize Ranger and full-size F-Series of pickups. But if you’ve been interested in seeing whether a smaller truck could work well for you, then there’s never been a better model to check out than the 2025 Maverick.
