When it comes to the best-known trucks in America, people think Ford. And when it comes to the best quality and highest capability in the form of a truck, well, you guessed it, people think Ford. From its conception in 1948, Ford F-150s have always been frontrunners in the automotive market. Thereās really no substitute for the kind of experience that comes from that long making and improving a specific vehicle.
Like its predecessors, the 2022 Ford F-150 is the peak of the truck community in terms of affordability, power, and overall value. Future Ford of Sacramento knows a quality truck when we see it, and the 2022 F-150 is the epitome of quality. Performance
Ford made sure to provide drivers with a huge variety of options regarding the 2022 F-150s, so when we look at performance, we have to consider all five different powertrains available. They each offer their own benefits and cater to specific types of drivers. This is an unheard-of level of versatility.
Engine Options
3.3 L V6: This engine is the standard and typical engine. It produces 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. This makes the engine a fun and capable truck that can fit even the most inexperienced truck drivers. This kind of power is great for handling and keeping the truck from wasting more power than can be easily controlled. Fuel efficiency for this powertrain is combined at 21 MPG, making it a good truck for just about any driving purpose.
2.7 Liter EcoBoost Turbo V6: This is an incredible alternative to the standard engine for anyone who can handle a bit more oomph. With horsepower pumping out at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, this engine is much faster on the get-up-and-go part of driving. It also does a little more work spinning the tires, making for a really enjoyable drive for anyone who likes a bit more speed. Surprisingly, the additional speed doesnāt compromise the fuel efficiency. Due to the addition of the Ecoboost, this engine on the 2022 F-150 can get a combined 22 MPG!
5.0 Liter Coyote V8: This engine is named the Coyote for a reason. It is quick and durable. We donāt know if youāve ever seen one of these wild dogs on the go, but they donāt stop! This is the same engine that goes in Mustangs, making it an absolute thrill to drive under the hood of a truck. Despite being designed for smaller vehicles, the Coyote keeps up with the demands of the F-150 with no problems. It can still move the truck down the street quickly with its output of 400 hp. This really responsive engine is a perfect fit for any driver seeking a good time behind the wheel.
3.5 Liter Ecoboost Turbo V6: Most manufacturers do one EcoBoost engine and call it a day, but not Ford. Theyāve opted to give drivers both a smaller and larger-sized Ecoboost engine. The 3.5L is slightly larger than the 2.7L and therefore is able to generate 400 hp. This engine parallels the Coyote in terms of power, which makes it a more eco-friendly version. We love how this engine can set you back and really make the drive exciting.
3.5 Liter PowerBoost Turbo V6 Hybrid: Last but far from least is the Hybrid engine. Again, most manufacturers donāt include hybrids and EcoBoost engines and usually go with one or the other. But Ford is driven to provide a vehicle for any need, and they found a way to make a hybrid engine happen without decreasing the truck’s power. In fact, the Hybrid engine puts out the highest horsepower and torque combination of all the other engines. With 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque, the PowerBoost engine is not to be trifled with. It is a mean, green driving machine, and we love how quick, sporty, and eco-friendly this engine makes the 2022 F-150 feel.
10-Speed Automatic Transmission
Each drive train pairs up with a 10-speed automatic transmission that helps them stay on the right side of fuel efficiency and keeps the gears cycling seamlessly. The chassis of the F-150 has incredible suspension and great response, making it a breeze to drive. Despite being a truck, the F-150 can make tight and concise turns, making it easy to maneuver. This truck truly performs above and beyond any expectations we might have had.
Comfort and Convenience Technology
Comfort and convenience are big in today’s vehicles. Itās weird to think we used to drive around in the backs of pickup trucks, holding on for dear life, and now we have seats soft enough to sleep on. When it comes to keeping drivers well within their comfort zones, Ford doesnāt compromise.
Unparalleled Comfort
In terms of comfort, Ford has gifted the drivers of the 2022 F-150s with high-quality materials in even the base level trims. If you spend long nights on the road, the F-150 can have seats that can be folded into a makeshift bed, which is an incredibly thoughtful attribute for Ford to have included. The seat material can be cloth or leather to fit the needs of whoever is driving. Ford has included plenty of leg and headroom, for drivers and passengers. This is quite the feat because they managed to get that roomy feeling into even the extended cab configurations. Ford also made sure to include a lot of interior storage cubbies to help keep your F-150 clutter-free.
Connectivity
It’s hard to keep up with the advancing technology, but somehow Ford manages to stay ahead of the game. The 2022 F-150 has an 8-inch infotainment screen that can be upgraded to a 12-inch screen if desired. These screens are larger than is typically standard, and we love how the additional inches add to the ease of use. Even more conveniently, Ford includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for all models of the F150, making hands-free use of smart device functions possible. You can also have an in-truck wi-fi hotspot, which is nice if you donāt have unlimited data. Ford also has Sirius XM and navigation, in case you ever go outside of service and canāt find your way back to it. They have a special vehicle application called Sync 4 that can give you weather updates, track your F-150’s location, and even update you on the current status of traffic!
Towing and Bed Capabilities
Most of us get a truck because we donāt want to use a trailer or want a vehicle strong enough to carry more than what we can fit on a trailer. Lucky for us, the 2022 F-150 can do it all!
Towing Capabilities
Depending on the engine, your F-150 can handle a slightly different weight, but the F-150 powertrain can normally handle between 8,200 and 14,000 lbs. The 3.3 liter V8 is the lowest weighted truck in terms of tow weight, with 8,200 lbs. This is a more than sufficient weight allotment for any truck needing to pull a dump trailer or a medium-sized moving trailer. When it comes to the highest-rated powertrain, the 3.5 liter EcoBoost Turbo is number one. It can pull up to 14,000 lbs in towing weight, which is the equivalent of towing between two and three cars. Thatās definitely more than most of us will ever need to be able to handle, but it sure feels good to know we could if we needed to!
Bed Capability
Like everything else, Ford wanted to give us options for our F-150 truck beds. Which means we have 3 different lengths of bed to consider. Regardless of bed length, the F-150s can accommodate between 1,985 and 3,325 lbs of weight in the bed. Even at its lowest capability, you could easily put a riding lawn mower or four-wheeler in the back of the truck rather than having to tow them on a separate trailer.
5.5 Ft. Bed: This bed is slightly shorter than the others, but that doesnāt make it less than them. Still able to hold quite a bit, the 5.5-footer is rated for up to 52.8 cu.ft. of cargo. We like this truck bed size because it is large enough to hold most things you would typically want to have in your truck bed while still being small enough to fit into tighter spaces.
6.5 Ft. Bed: As the middle-sized bed, there are a lot of great things with a 6.5-foot bed. It’s slightly larger, so it’s not quite as maneuverable, but the additional foot adds a lot of extra room. Handling up to 62.3 cu.ft. of storage is definitely worth sacrificing the tightest parking spots on the lot.
8 Ft. Bed: This bed is quite a bit larger than the others and so you can imagine that it holds a lot more! Able to accommodate up to 77.4 cu.ft. of storage when utilizing a bed cover, the 8-foot bed is an excellent choice for those who constantly have long wood beams with flags off the ends. Those additional few feet really make a huge difference.
