The 2022 Ford Bronco is proof that legends never die. Thereā€™s a trend in the automotive industry to rekindle former nameplates and make old models new again, as weā€™ve seen with the likes of the Chevy Blazer and even the Jeep Gladiator. Ford jumped on the bandwagon in 2021 with the return of the iconic Bronco but, in true Ford fashion, managed to put its own twist on the legend to make it more capable, more powerful, and more innovative than ever. In doing so, Ford didnā€™t just make the Bronco new again; it made it a modern marvel and a powerhouse on wheels with a penchant for adventure and the capability to match.

The 2022 Bronco talks the talk and walks the walk of a road warrior destined for the trail. Building on the success of the 2021 model, the 2022 Bronco is truly impressive with its on and off-road capability. This is courtesy of a multi-engine lineup that delivers anywhere from 300 to 400 horsepower and upwards of 415 lb-ft of torque for plenty of power whether youā€™re cruising at highway speeds, navigating rush-hour traffic, or tackling technical terrain.

Just when you thought the Bronco couldnā€™t get any better, Ford ups the ante with the 2022 lineup and introduces two next-level performers that are destined to get a little (or a lot) of mud on the tires. The Bronco Everglades builds on the Sasquatch package and adds distinct design details as well as greater capability to the four-wheel drive road warrior. While impressive, the Everglades offers only a glimpse into the Broncoā€™s real capability when you get behind the wheel of the all-new Bronco Raptor. With its twin-turbo V6 engine and beefier suspension, the Raptor lives up to its reputation in the Ford lineup and makes the Bronco more capable than you ever imagined.

Performance

A red 2022 Ford Bronco Badlands is shown from the side driving on a dirt path in the mountains.

Built With More Than Enough Power

Built to perform, the 2022 Bronco delivers the power you need exactly when you need it, courtesy of three exceptional engines and its class-exclusive 7-speed manual or available 10-speed automatic transmissions. The Broncoā€™s standard powerplant is the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that can be paired to either transmission and delivers 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque when running on premium fuel. Even when using regular fuel, the engine is impressive and delivers best-in-class four-cylinder torque at 315 lb-ft for exceptional acceleration and capability in any situation.

If youā€™re looking for more power, youā€™ll find exactly that when you opt for the 2022 Bronco with the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood. Mated to Fordā€™s 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2.7-liter churns out 325 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque, another best-in-class rating. Surprisingly, this boost in power doesnā€™t dramatically reduce the Broncoā€™s fuel economy with an average of 19 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway compared to the 2.3-liter that averages 20 MPG and 21 MPG, respectively.

Discovering that drivers are always looking for more capability and power in an SUV like the Bronco, Ford answers that need with the Bronco Raptor and its newly developed twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. Mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the 3.0-liter EcoBoost delivers over 400 horsepower and raises the standards of performance and capability throughout the segment. As the most powerful street-legal Bronco ever built, the Raptor is truly a powerhouse on wheels that will leave you breathless in the driverā€™s seat.

Tech

Built to Tackle the Trails Easily

The 2022 Bronco is a haven of cutting-edge technology that makes every adventure and every moment behind the wheel more enjoyable and fun. The heart of this technology is a tribute to the early Broncoā€™s nickname as the ā€œThe GOAT,ā€ an SUV so agile that it could go over any type of terrain. For 2022, the Bronco extends that capability with its G.O.A.T. Mode Terrain Management System that relies on modern technology to tailor how the Bronco performs on the terrain at hand by fine tuning the throttle, transmission, and steering using Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Baja modes.

With the G.O.A.T. Modes giving you more control over the Broncoā€™s performance, Ford equips the adventurous SUV with a suite of state-of-the-art tools that are designed to help you on the trail. Known as the Trail Toolbox, this suite includes the class-exclusive Trail Turn Assist, Trail Control, and Trail 1-Pedal Drive. Trail Turn Assist reduces the Broncoā€™s turning radius at low speeds by applying negative torque to the inside rear wheel so that you can navigate more technical areas with ease.

Broncos with the 10-speed automatic transmission offer Trail Control, which takes cruise control to an entirely new level. Just as you would set your cruising speed on the highway, Trail Control lets you set a safe cruising speed on the trail. With the tool constantly adjusting the throttle and braking as needed, you can focus on the trail ahead. Last, but far from least, is the class-exclusive Trail 1-Pedal Drive. When youā€™re faced with more technical terrain, every second counts, even when it means moving your foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal. Trail 1-Pedal Drive eliminates this downtime by allowing you to stop the Bronco by taking your foot off the accelerator.

Beyond this trail-specific technology, youā€™ll also find the 2022 Bronco is equipped with an expansive suite of modern features. This includes the renowned SYNC 4 infotainment system thatā€™s home to smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, as well as a variety of in-vehicle apps. Among these, youā€™ll find the FordPass Performance app is exceptionally helpful thanks to class-exclusive features like Off-Road Navigation. This gives you access to map data long after you lose cell service, which means less time spent navigating and more time enjoying the beauty of the trail itself. With the option to track, capture, and share your route, you can easily return and even share your latest adventure with friends.

Raptor

The Most Powerful Bronco Ever

The return of the Bronco ignited fierce competition in the segment of adventurous SUVs and continues to do so with models like the 2022 Bronco Raptor, the first Ultra4 Racing-inspired SUV in the world. Designed for desert racing and rock crawling, the Raptor is part of Fordā€™s Built Wild lineup and takes the legendary SUV to a new level of performance. While itā€™s at home on the trail, itā€™s no stranger to the pavement as the most powerful street-legal Bronco ever built.

This next-level performance starts under the hood, where Fordā€™s twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine delivers over 400 horsepower without breaking a sweat. As the ultimate in hardcore performance, the Raptorā€™s race-ready suspension and high-strength steel frame with improved shock towers to increase wheel travel add to its capability on any terrain while heavy-duty bash and skid plates protect vital underbody components. Sitting on 37-inch all-terrain tires, the Raptor also stretches nearly 10 inches wider than the base Bronco thanks to upgraded front and rear Dana axles. This translates to a 4.8-inch increase in ground clearance to 13.1 inches and more overall stability.

The Raptorā€™s four-wheel drive system is also impressive, with the upgraded transfer case delivering a wider gear ratio for better rock crawling, low-speed maneuvers, and high-speed desert runs. These updates go hand-in-hand with the Broncoā€™s exclusive G.O.A.T. Modes Terrain Management System. Designed to go over any type of terrain, the Raptor adds Baja Mode and Tow/Haul mode to the lineup. Baja Mode maximizes the Broncoā€™s performance during high-speed desert runs while Tow/Haul boosts the SUVā€™s tow rating to 4,500 pounds, which is an improvement over the base Broncoā€™s 3,500-pound maximum.

Everglades

A tan 2022 Ford Bronco Everglades is shown driving through water.

A Down and Dirty Bronco

The Bronco Sasquatch package was about as adventurous as you could get with the 2021 Bronco, but thatā€™s set to change in 2022. This is thanks to the Bronco Everglades, which extends the capability of the Sasquatch and readies the Bronco for any adventure right off the production line. This puts the Everglades between the Sasquatch and Raptor as another hardcore adventurer that can handle all the demands of the road ahead.

When those demands mean navigating deep water crossings, the Everglades wonā€™t hesitate. By building on the Sasquatch package, the Everglades adds mud-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, a lifted suspension, front and rear locking differentials, and a factory-installed snorkel. With its axles, transfer case, and other vital components raised, the Everglades can ford water up to 36.4 inches deep, a noticeable improvement over the Sasquatchā€™s 33.5-inch water fording capability.

Navigating water crossings and technical terrain doesnā€™t come without the risk of getting stuck, and thatā€™s why Ford equips the Everglades with a heavy-duty modular front bumper and safari bar. For added peace of mind, opt for the Everglades with the factory-installed Warn winch kit thatā€™s capable of pulling up to 10,000 pounds. This is ideal when you find yourself in a dicey situation where all your tricks to maximize traction and dig yourself out of a hole arenā€™t working.

As far as power, Ford makes sure you have plenty of it and outfits the Everglades with the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. Mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2.3-liter delivers 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Despite not offering the beefier 2.7-liter V6 engine or the 7-speed manual transmission, the 2.3-liter makes the Bronco Everglades more than capable both on and off the pavement.
